저는 사물을 단일한 기능이나 가치로 환원하지 않고 그것이 놓여 있는 맥락과 관계 그리고 그 안에 축적된 서사를 함께 바라봅니다. 사물은 사회문화적 코드와 역사와 같이 다양한 층위의 요소들과 교차하며 존재합니다. 이에 저는 사물이 고고학적 시선에서 재발견되어 해석되는 방식에 주목하여, 선형적 시간을 넘어 관계 속에서 끊임없이 재정의되고 해석되는 과정을 관찰합니다. 그 흐름 속 우리가 일상적으로 마주하는 분류 체계나 위계 구조가 얼마나 잠정적이고 불완전한지를 드러내고자 합니다. 작업에서 중심과 주변, 가시성과 비가시성의 경계를 가로지르는 사물의 움직임은 사물이 물질을 넘어 사회적 의미망과 교섭하며 재배치되는 존재임을 보여줍니다. 이때 나 자신의 존재 방식 또한 성찰하며 그것에 대한 입장을 드러냅니다.
작업에서 주로 사용하는 재료는 발견된 오브제로 우리가 주변에서 흔히 접할 수 있는 사물이거나 건축 재료처럼 우리를 둘러싼 요소들입니다. 이를 통해 사물이 지닌 과거의 시간과 맥락을 현재로 끌어오며 관계가 얽히는 과정에서 형성되는 일시적인 상태에 집중합니다. 이 상태는 사물이 이미 속한 현실과 새로운 관계에서 다시 쓰이려는 움직임이 맞서는 지점입니다. 두 방향의 힘이 서로를 중단시키며 그 대립의 한가운데서 사물은 팽창과 정지가 교차하는 시간 속에 머뭅니다. 작업은 진공상태에서 사물이 움직이지 않으면서도 여전히 작동하는 존재로 드러납니다. 이러한 상태 속에서 ‘겹침’, ‘기울기’, ‘모방’, ‘적응’과 같은 행위를 통해 사물의 관계성을 탐색하며 그것들이 사회 시스템 안에서 어떻게 전환되는지를 실험합니다.
사물의 전환 과정을 탐구하는 것은 관계의 구조를 탐색하는 일이며 결국 서로 다른 존재들이 어떤 방식으로 서로를 인식하고 조율하는지를 관찰하는 일입니다. 이러한 관계적 긴장은 자연스럽게 차이와 공존의 문제로 이어집니다. 작업이 궁극적으로 질문하는 것은 다른 존재들이 서로를 변화시키며 지속될 수 있는 공존의 형태입니다. 사물은 각기 다른 기원을 지녔지만 이러한 차이들은 관계의 맥락 속에서 재구성됩니다. 이 변화의 흐름에서 사물들은 서로를 갱신하며 공존의 의미 또한 지속적으로 다시 정의됩니다. 저는 작업을 통해 비정형적이고 유동적인 공존의 조건들을 조형적으로 확장하고자 하며 이로써 새로운 관계의 언어를 모색합니다.
I approach objects through their contexts, relationships, and the narratives accumulated within them. Each object exists where various layers of meaning such as social, cultural, and historical codes intersect. I focus on how objects are rediscovered and interpreted through an archaeological gaze, observing how they are continuously redefined and reinterpreted within relationships beyond a linear sense of time. Through this process, I aim to reveal how the classificatory and hierarchical systems we encounter in daily life are provisional and incomplete. The movements of objects that traverse the boundaries between center and periphery, visibility and invisibility show that they are entities negotiating and repositioning themselves within social networks of meaning. In this process, I also reflect on my own mode of existence and articulate my position toward it.
The materials I mainly use are found objects, often everyday items or architectural components that surround us. Through them, I draw the past time and context of objects into the present, focusing on the temporary states that emerge as relationships become entangled. This state is the point where the movement of objects that already belong to one reality confronts their attempt to be rewritten in new relationships. The two opposing forces suspend each other, and at the center of this tension, the object remains in a time where expansion and stillness intersect. In my work, objects appear as entities that do not move yet continue to operate within a state of vacuum. Within this condition, I explore the relationality of objects through acts such as overlapping, tilting, imitating, and adapting, experimenting with how they are transformed within social systems.
Exploring the transformation of objects is a way of examining the structures of relationships and observing how different entities perceive and attune to one another. This relational tension naturally extends to the questions of difference and coexistence. What my work ultimately asks is how different beings can change one another and continue to exist together. Although each object has a distinct origin, these differences are reconstructed within relational contexts. In this continuous flow of transformation, the objects renew one another, and the meaning of coexistence is also redefined. Through my work, I seek to expand the conditions of irregular and fluid coexistence in a sculptural form, thereby searching for a new language of relationships.
